Increasing the Fitness of OGC-Compliant Web Map Services for the Web 2.0

چکیده

Google Maps and Google Earth are very popular web mapping services but they are not open and not OGC-compliant. The question arises why this is not the case. One reason is that commercial data providers require a tight coupling between the provided maps and additional supplements like advertisements. Another answer to this question is the missing support of mashups that become more and more popular with using Google Maps. This paper presents several approaches to overcome these deficits of OGCcompliant web mapping services. The most promising solutions are integrated into an architecture for a Web 2.0 map server and are implemented by a prototype. Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is one essential technology within this architecture. By using such approach, the current need for closed systems like Google Earth or Google Maps may diminish.

Managing a Geographic Database from Mobile Devices Through OGC Web Services

We present in this paper a system for the management of geographic databases from mobile devices. The architecture of the system is extensible in the sense that it can be adapted to the particular characteristics of a wide variety of heterogenous mobile devices. This is achieved by the incorporation of an extensible middleware between the limited GIS applications running at the Mobile devices a...

Standardized Geoprocessing - Taking Spatial Data Infrastructures one Step Further

Spatial data infrastructures (SDI) have been widely accepted to share geospatial data among organizations. Today SDI’s main focus lies on distributed data storage in the form of spatial web services, the retrieval through catalogues, and the visualization in form of web map services. The hypothesis presented in this paper takes SDI’s one step further by providing a method to process geodata, in...
